Maidstone Rural East
I am delighted to have been selected as the Conservative candidate to represent Maidstone Rural East at the Kent County Council election on 4 May 2017.
Following a successful twenty year career in communications, I moved to Kent, drawn by the quality of life in the heart of the countryside and access to a first-class grammar school education for my children.
I live in Ulcombe with my husband and two children. I have played an active role in the community and politics and in May 2016 was elected as Maidstone Borough Councillor representing Headcorn (including Hawkenbury), Ulcombe, Boughton Malherbe and East Sutton. My other posts include Vice-Chairman of Ulcombe Parish Council, Chairman of Protect Our Weald (a local community group with 300+ members), a member of the CPRE Kent (Maidstone) Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Faversham and Mid Kent Conservative Association.
Our rural way of life is constantly under threat by inappropriate development. As an outspoken member of Maidstone's Planning Committee, I have already established a reputation for never being afraid to challenge officers and fellow Councillors. Recent successes have included the refusal of industrial development at J8 of the M20 and two industrial solar farm developments in Headcorn.
I will be a strong voice for all the residents in our community so that they can access essential services when they need them. I want our children and young people to be able to attend outstanding local schools and access high quality educational opportunities including apprenticeships. I will wage a personal war on potholes, speeding and poor highway repairs to ensure safety for all road users. I believe our elderly deserve to enjoy a good quality of life without feeling isolated.
Politics is about speaking up for local people and doing what's right, and I have an established record of doing just that. If successfully elected, I will always put the needs of Maidstone Rural East first. I will listen to all your concerns - as a resident they are already my concerns - and I will be your champion at County Hall.
