Candidate in swale for Swale West.
I’m standing for Swale West and campaigning for better roads, schools and health services in the area. A new A249/M2 junction is to be built at Stockbury, but I want to see improvements at Key Street and Grovehurst roundabouts and the completion of the Northern Relief Road to ease congestion in Sittingbourne town centre.
We must continue to create new school places, such as those I led on previously in Iwade, Newington and Lower Halstow, and new medical facilities to meet the demands of the growing population, and I want better broadband and mobile phone coverage. Ninety-five per cent of homes in Kent will have access to superfast broadband by 2018 thanks to investment by KCC and the Conservative Government, but there’s more to be done to ensure no one is left behind.
I’m a great admirer of the work done by our Parish Councils and community groups. I’ve supported them with my Member grants and joined them in their work wherever I can, such as litter picks in Hartlip and Iwade and helping to ensure delivery of the new community centre in The Meads.
I serve on the steering group for the new Sittingbourne Skatepark, which is due to be built and open next year, and volunteer as a mentor with The Prince’s Trust, helping young people into employment. Until recently, I sat as a trustee of Kent Savers Credit Union, one of the fastest growing in the country, helping families on low incomes manage their finances.
