I am standing again for the Tenterden Division having represented this lovely area at Kent County Council since 2001. I have been very pleased during this time to work with Parish Councils and local Groups to tackle many of the issues which affect people's lives. To help this work I set up a local forum at which I meet regularly with Parish Councils and Borough Councillors. We have dealt with a variety of issues including Highways, Planning, Social Care and Schools. I have been able to use these contacts to channel my Members' Grant effectively to the areas of greatest need. I have also responded positively to a large number of individual requests for help. I maintain close links with education provision having been a governor of Tenterden Junior and Infant schools for many years and now as a Director of the new Tenterden Multi Academy Trust.
At County Hall I have held the Community Services Cabinet portfolio since 2005 overseeing a number of frontline services. I am proud that they all continue to provide a first class robust service despite the severe financial pressure of the last few years. There have also been some notable achievements including the construction of the enormously successful Turner Contemporary Gallery and a superb new History Centre to house our wonderful archives.
I have been closely involved with Kent Police for many years have been Vice Chairman of the old Police Authority and now Chairman of Kent and Medway Police and Crime Panel.
