Candidate in tonbridge_and_malling for Malling Rural East.
I was born and brought up near West Malling in Kent and have lived in London, Scotland and other parts of the country before returning to Kent some twenty years ago.
I have spent a varied working life in various areas of the world of property as a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, involved in agriculture, commercial property funding and development, leisure property and property and farm management.
In recent years I have been involved in local government as a parish councillor, a borough councillor at Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, where I held various cabinet responsibilities, and I am now a Kent county councillor where I am the Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport.
My responsibilities, beyond those of being a county councillor and as a member of the KCC cabinet, include highways, waste disposal, planning, transport, public transport, the environment and heritage services. These responsibilities are very wide in their scope, interesting and challenging.
I am very pleased that, even with the severe financial climate, KCC’s front line services have been maintained but the next four years are likely to be even more difficult and those elected will need to know how to keep the Council services that people depend on.
