Candidate in thanet for Margate.
Hey there, my name’s Kerry and I am delighted to be standing as the candidate for Margate Ward.
I was born and bred in Thanet and have recently graduated with a degree in Education Studies with Business Studies from Canterbury Christ Church University.
I am standing because I am passionate about young people’s issues, education and community engagement. All three of these areas are continuously changing in society and I believe we need to develop ways to not only respond to societal changes but also to improve the foundations for the future needs of communities.
I currently work for a Kent based young people’s charity supporting young people to get into employment as well as undertaking a research project to understand the barriers and challenges relating to youth unemployment in Thanet.
Prior to this I have gained a range of skills and experience from working on the National Citizen Service programme, in a secondary school as well as being a former Chair of the Garlinge Residents’ Association.
Most notably I was appointed as Youth Commissioner for the Office of the Kent Police and Crime Commissioner in March 2014. One of my proudest accomplishments was undertaking a research report into youth engagement where I provided a set of recommendations to inform the Police and Crime Plan.
In between tweeting about my cat, supporting Chelsea FC or what coffee I’m enjoying and how much I #LoveThanet, I am probably out with my local running club preparing for the Brighton Marathon in April 2017- eek!!
Interesting Fact- I had the honour of being a London 2012 Olympic Torchbearer!
