Northfleet and Gravesend West
My name is Gary Harding and I was born in Gravesend in 1961 and lived here most of my life.
After almost 30 years working as an Artworker/Graphic Designer in London for Marks and Spencer, I was made redundant and there followed by two years of unemployment, I became part of the team at Diamond Social Enterprises based at the Hive, Northfleet. I helped set up aa Job Club to help both disabled and Deaf people gain meaningful employment. I was also a member of the Northfleet Big Local, where I created their first website and designed the current logo.
We subsequently presented Deaf Awareness workshops and Seminars for Council workers, Colleges, NHS and a whole host of groups in and around Kent.
I was born profoundly deaf and whilst like many others I am passionate about our community, with my experience in working on the front line of our community, seeing real problems faced by people every day, having a deep insight from the problems that I had to face in my life and understand the barriers that too many face today I am an avid campaigner.
Here, in Northfleet & Gravesend West, after so long, we now have great opportunities for our future, the new housing developments in Ebbsfleet, with up to 40,000 new people to living here on our doorstep, bringing in new wealth and employment for local businesses. The building of Paramount will bring in new and sustainable employment for local people, and I like others will be pushing for the Northfleet Harbour restoration, bringing in potential Marina Centre on the Thames, creating a heritage industry.
The future has never been more positive for Northfleet & Gravesend West.
