My name is David Owen and I came to Hythe firstly as a child in 1951 and with only a gap of 15 years when my family moved to Surrey, I have lived in this area ever since and been resident in Hythe for the past 42 years.
Hythe is truly home to myself and my family.
I am married to Cathy and we have two daughters, five grandchildren and two great-grandsons most of whom live and work in this area.
From 1963 I worked as a Marine Insurance Broker at Lloyd's of London and culminated my career as a Founding Director of a new Insurance Broking House.
Having retired I stood for election for both Hythe Town Council and Shepway District Council in 2007 and was successful in winning back the seat for the Conservative Party.
At Hythe Town Council after serving as Deputy Mayor from 2009 - 2011, I was honoured to be elected Mayor of the Town from 2011 - 2013. I am currently Chairman of the Finance & General Purposes Committee.
At Shepway District Council I am Chairman of the Audit & Governance Committee and also Vice Chairman of the Council. I have also previously chaired a Romney Marsh Working Group which gave me a useful insight of Marsh issues. I am also a Board Member of East Kent Housing which administers Council owned property in Shepway, Dover, Canterbury and Thanet.
