My name is David Monk, and I hope that on May 4th the residents of Folkestone West Division will cast their vote to see me elected to Kent County Council. If elected I will work hard on your behalf to protect your interests and those of the wider Kent community.
I am a happily married man and father of four adult children.
It has been my privilege to represent the residents of Shepway as an elected District Councillor for over 20 years - the last 4 of which as Leader of SDC. This prestigious post, leading a forward-looking, positive and passionate team of colleagues, has given me the opportunity to really influence the future of our towns and villages and provide a fabulous environment for generations to come. I also serve on Folkestone Town and Hawkinge Town councils and on Swingfield Parish Council. These posts demonstrate my commitment to the well being of our communities.
I believe in looking forward, not back.
As Councillors, we have a duty to plan ahead for the benefit of all, and fight for a fair deal for our citizens to ensure that we have cost effective and efficient services to meet current and future demands. Adult Care services are particularly important to meet the growing needs of an ageing population, while young families need the support and encouragement to buy their own homes in this unique corner of the UK.
As a Gateway to Europe, Kent is well placed to tempt many more businesses out of London and create the jobs we so badly need.
Kent has so much to offer. The high speed train, Eurotunnel, Universities, Cathedral City and Cinque Ports are all within our boundaries. Vote for me and I will work hard to capitalise on the positive aspects and counteract the negative.
